The Technical Architect reports directly to the Director of Professional Services and when assigned to a project acts as the last line of defense in ensuring high quality solution delivery.

The primary objective of the Technical Architect is ensuring client satisfaction with the most complex solutions we are providing. This role will act as a technical leader for projects involving Microsoft, Networking, Security and Virtualization technologies. The secondary objective is developing documentation, tools, processes and procedures to increase the efficiency and standardization of the solutions we are offering.

Following the client approval, the Technical Architect will ensure the different Consulting teams deliver the solution that addresses the original requirements in the most efficient way possible. The Technical Architect will interact with the client and manage the technical expectations of the project both internally with the project team and externally with the client. This role will require a strong emphasis on Client interaction, communication, design, documentation and testing.

Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility for the overall solution
  • Validate the solution can and will be delivered with a high degree of quality
  • Help to build project schedule and identify key milestones and dependencies
  • After client has signed off on project, ensure solution meets client expectations by acting as the client advocate internally
  • Diligence, thoroughness and frequent communication between all team members is essential
  • Must keep project management up to date with progress and risks
  • Must ensure Consultants understand the overall solution and that they are delivering their part of the solution effectively
  • Lead team members on the best practices and processes for implementations
  • Develop and manage standards and best practices for the effective execution of projects
  • Identify and select the appropriate tools, process and required documentation for complex initiatives
  • The Technical Architect will be responsible for documenting complex solutions by working closely with all the Consultants during a project
  • Oversee the implementation of the standards
  • The Technical Architect will work with the Practice Leads to develop new solutions and product offerings
  • Identify new solutions by actively engaging in industry events, conferences and organizations

Required Experience

  • 3+ years architecture experience in the design and implementation of enterprise network, security, virtualization, cloud, and/or Microsoft technologies
  • 7+ years experience in IT; with advanced server and/or network performance management and troubleshooting
  • Experience with scripting and enterprise automation is a plus
  • Cloud and Managed Service Provider experience is an asset
  • This position will require the candidate to successfully obtain clearance under the Government of Canada Controlled Goods Program.

Skills Required

  • A proficiency towards documentation and standards development
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills is required
  • This role requires an individual with a broad level of skill in at least four of the below practice areas:
    • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Technologies
      • Active Directory
      • File and storage services
      • Exchange and Messaging Services
      • Certificate Authority Services
      • Office 365 (would be beneficial)
    • Intermediate knowledge of Cloud Services
      • Experience with Microsoft Azure and/or Amazon Web Services
    • Intermediate knowledge of Networking
      • Basic routing and switching concepts
      • Experience with circuit or connection migrations
    • Familiarity with Virtual Desktop Infrastructure technologies
      • Citrix XenApp
      • Microsoft Remote Desktop Services
    • Intermediate knowledge Virtualization components
      • Experience with VMware vSphere
      • Virtual Machine Migrations
      • Fundamental knowledge of Storage infrastructure
    • Knowledge of Disaster Recovery key concepts, best practices and projects
    • Knowledge of Security key concepts, best practices and projects

Education/Certifications

  • University Degree and/or related Technical Diplomas are strongly encouraged
  • As this role requires a broad array of expertise, baseline certifications in any of the following areas would be a plus:
    • Microsoft
      • MCSE
    • Networking
      • CCNA
    • Virtualization
      • VCP
